Course Description

A s-t-r-e-t-c-h is a new food trying technique that helps a child learn to enjoy a new food or food property in tiny steps starting from a familiar food or food property.  You s-t-r-e-t-c-h from “familiar,” something the child knows and likes. We use stretches to build confidence. This webinar will help participants strategize ways to help parents start with a familiar drink or solid and transition to a new food or food group while learning to be confident with a new one, to stretch from wet foods to dry and vice versa, to stretch from only one feeder to another, or from one vitamin or medicine to another and more. The focus is on practical and compassionate strategies that WORK for parents!  

You will learn to:

  • Define Food S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S in the context of infant and child feeding

  • Describe practical S-T-R-E-T-C-H strategies to help children progress from familiar to new liquids, solids, textures and flavors, one feeder to another (and more)

  • Describe practical strategies to S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S from dependent feeding to independent self- feeding

  • Describe ways to help therapy strategies bridge to home

  • Describe practical approaches to support parents with S-T-R-E-T-C-H-E-S

Founder and Senior Instructor Marsha Dunn Klein, OTR/L, MED, FAOTA

Marsha is a pediatric occupational therapist who has specialized in pediatric feeding for more than 50 years. She has co-authored Pre-Feeding Skills, First Edition, Pre-Feeding Skills: Second Edition, Mealtime Participation Guide, and Homemade Blended Formula with Suzanne Evans Morris, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. She co-authored Feeding and Nutrition for the Child with Special Needs with Tracy Delaney. Her newest book is Anxious Eaters, Anxious Mealtimes: Practical and Compassionate Strategies for Mealtime Peace. Marsha presents nationally and internationally. She is a food celebrator and is passionate about supporting children and their families.

Cancellations

Cancellations must be in writing and will incur a $10 fee. We are unable to give refunds if more than 10% of the course has been viewed. If the Get Permission Institute should need to remove course content for any reason, course fees will be refunded or transferred to another course at the discretion of the participant.
