Course Description

Heidi and Jeni will provide a comprehensive picture of the influences on feeding and the development of sensory-motor skills for eating. They will expand upon the development of self-regulation and the role of autonomy and motivation in the process. They will explain common therapy pitfalls, and the reasons that kids often get stuck. Strategies to support children and families and maximize skill development will be discussed.


In this 2-hour webinar you will learn to:

  • Explain why autonomy is important in motor learning and feeding skill development

  • Describe the role of the feeding relationship in motor learning and development

  • Describe the role of competence in motor learning and development

  • List 3 internal motivators for each stage of development

  • Apply motor learning concepts in delayed or atypical motor development

Audience

This intermediate and advanced level course is appropriate for OTs, SLPs, PTs, assistants, educators, early intervention providers, parents/caregivers, and other professionals (social workers, nurses, registered dieticians, etc.) working with children with feeding challenges.
