Using Tools Responsively in Pediatric Feeding Therapy

Course Description
Many pediatric feeding therapists utilize tools of various kinds in treatment of children who have pediatric feeding challenges. Marsha will share how to approach tool use within a framework of partnership with children and their parents and describe a communication-based, cue-based, and responsive approach to therapeutic interactions. She will discuss concepts of responsive guidance and responsive opportunities contrasted with use of tools within protocols. Individualized guidelines for tool usage, including toothbrushes, will be offered. A Get Permission Tool Guidance handout will be included.

This intermediate level course is appropriate for OTs, SLPs, PTs, assistants, educators, early intervention providers, parents/caregivers, and other professionals (social workers, nurses, registered dietitians, etc.) working with children with feeding challenges.
